Fearing government action over possession of fake educational degrees, as many as 1,400 primary teachers have resigned from service in Bihar. To prevent the teachers from facing any legal action in this matter, a Patna High Court asked those possessing the fake certificates to quit on their own.
The Education Board has fixed July 8 as the last date of resignation for teachers. Several resignations are expected in the next few days. The final figure of all those who resign will be known only after it.
Strict legal action is expected to be taken against the teachers who do not leave the job within the given time period. The teachers will have to face FIRs lodged against them and a permanent termination of services from government jobs.
The High Court order came through a division bench of Chief Justice L Narasimha Reddy and Sudhir Singh while hearing a bunch of Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by activists Ranjit Pandit and others.
The Public Interest Litigation alleges that out of the 3.5 lakh primary teachers in Bihar, a large number among them have taken up the job on the basis of fake educational certificates. The Vigilance Department has already started probing into the matter by giving the duty to eight DSPs and 38 inspectors.
The State Government has asked for a time period of three-four months to complete the task, which has resulted in the High Court allowing a time frame, under which action will not be taken against teachers who resign on their own.
