Right amidst the Delhi University admissions, the acting principal of Kirori Mal College, Mr SP Gupta has been removed from office with immediate effect, after he was alleged of financial mismanagement. The decision was taken at a meeting of the Governing Body (GB) late on late night on June 30.
Mr Dinesh Khattar of the Mathematics department will now be taking over as the officiating Principal, as per an announcement on July 1.
The decision was taken after the University Grants Commission (UGC) put allegations on Mr SP Gupta regarding mismanagement of funds to conduct its National Eligibility Test (NET).
The Principal failed to produce sufficient documents to account for Rs 89,22,161 of Rs 1.5 crore that the UGC granted to the college. The funds were granted to conduct three rounds of NET and two for the recruitment of education officers.
Mr SP Gupta has been given a chance to explain his position and a time period of three-months to settle the issue with UGC. He was appointed as the officiating Principal in August, 2012 and will continue to work at the Department of Commerce for the session.
