Fake electrical appliances were today seized in raids conducted by district police teams at a senior BJP leader’s house and a shop reportedly owned by the family near the main bus stand.Sources said that Chandigarh-based Speed Search Security Network Private Limited had complained to SSP Dr Ketan Baliram Patil that fake appliances with stickers of Bajaj and Usha companies were being sold in the district. After preliminary verification, the SSP deputed three teams from Fazilka and Abohar to accompany the officials of the security networking company, including director Ramesh Dutt and Punjab zone head Sumesh Gagneja.A team raided the house of BJP leader and former councillor Ramesh Aneja in Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar and seized 100 China-made batteries bearing the Bajaj mark and 80 indigenous ceiling fans on which stickers of Usha company were affixed.Similar goods were reportedly seized in the raid at the shop reportedly owned by Sunil Aneja, son of the BJP leader, near the main bus stand here.Sunil, who was immediately held under the Copyright Act and some Sections of the IPC, reportedly said during interrogation that the stickers were printed at a printing press near the bus stand. The owner of the press has also been rounded up for questioning.As the police raided the house and shop of the Aneja family, some other shops downed shutters within few minutes indicating that such unethical trade practices were also being carried out by them.
