American motorcycle manufacturer UM Motorcycles is set to launch two new bikes in India next month. According to a report in Indian Autos Blog (IAB), UM Motorcycles will be launching the Renegade Commando Black Cat & Renegade Sports S Vegas Edition in September. IAB is also reporting that the American bikemaker will launch the Renegade Dust S and Duty Ace in the first quarter of 2019. All these bikes will compete with various Royal Enfields already on sale.
Of the two bikes being launched in September, the Renegade Commando Black Cat is just a new matte black paint scheme for the Renegade Commando cruiser from UM Motorcycles. UM currently offers the Renegade Commando with three different paint options – Matte Moss Green, Black Shine and Burgundy Shine. The Renegade Commando Black Cat will be priced at Rs 1,82,503 ex-showroom (Delhi).
The UM Renegade Sports S Vegas Edition was first unveiled at the Auto Expo 2018 in February. The new Renegade Sports S Vegas Edition adds a few cosmetic changes to the regular Renegade Sports S by removing the stock handlebars and replacing them with drag style ones. The Vegas Edition is also painted in matte black, but gets a few red and gloss back accents that help it shine even when in a big crowd. Other changes include an LED headlamp and a ribbed seat with a rear pillion cowl. The Renegade Sports S is expected to be priced slightly higher than the Black Cat as it is a special edition bike rather than a just new paint job.
Both the Renegade Commando Black Cat and the Renegade Sports S Vegas Edition are powered by the same 279.5cc, single-cylinder fuel injected engine which produces 24.8 Bhp at 8,500rpm and 23 Nm of torque at 7,000rpm. Both bikes send power to the rear wheel via a 6-speed gearbox. Both bikes are 2257mm long, 780mm wide and 1,140mm tall, and both have a wheelbase of 1,545mm. Both bikes are shod with tubeless tyres fitted onto 16-inch (front) and 15-inch rear alloy wheels. Braking duties are handled by a 280mm disc brake up front and while the Black Cat makes do with a drum brake, the Vegas gets a disc.
UM Motorcycles also confirmed that the Renegade Duty S and The Renegade Duty Ace, which were scheduled for a September launch, were on track. However, the company has decided to add in a few features like ABS, which become mandatory for all bikes by 2019. The Duty S and Ace are powered by a 223cc fuel injected engine that produces 16.76 Bhp at 8,000rpm and 17Nm of torque at 5,000rpm. The Duty S is two kilos heavier than the Ace at 142 kilogrammes.
UM Motorcycles also confirmed that the Renegade Duty S and the Renegade Duty Ace, both of which will rival the Royal Enfield Classic 350, will launch in early 2019. The delay (from the original launch schedule of September 2018) is because of the fact that the company has decided to add in a few features like ABS, which has become now mandatory for all 125cc+ bikes by 2019.
The new UM Renegade Ace will rival the likes of the Bajaj Avenger at one end of the spectrum (engine size) and Royal Enfield’s cruisers on the other (price), with an ex-showroom price of Rs. 1.10 lakh, though this could go up thanks to the arrival of ABS.
